Forklift Parts in More Detail
A lift truck is constructed from many components. The key components that make up a lift truck are the frame of the truck, the engine components, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. What's more, a forklift has various kinds of attachments. All the components that make up a forklift are of equal importance as they work together to make the equipment's operation possible. The next paragraphs describe in detail a few of the forklift components.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the equipment operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck will hurt the operator or damage the controls inside the cab. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on some models.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical forklift component made of interlocking rails. The mast enables the forks to move up and down while providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails can either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast may be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Forklift Carriage - the forks and different other types of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is connected to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is attached by chains. To be able to allow the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack which keeps a load from falling backwards while the carriage is lifted to its full height. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - a range of attachments can be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common kind of attachment is forks. Moreover, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These different kinds of attachments are really useful for moving different kinds of loads.
