There are two standard types of forklifts, models which run on gas and models that run on electricity:
Internal Combustion Lift trucks: The Internal Combustion forklift will run on fuels such as liquid propane, gas, diesel or compressed natural gas or CNG. Gas powered models are best suited for outdoor applications because they release gases and pollutants that are harmful to employees and pedestrians. Gas models are also suitable for use in bad climate and in the rain. These models can carry weights approximately 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Because of the fuel costs and maintenance, units that run on gas are much more expensive to utilize than models which run on electricity, although, they cost less up front compared to the electric models. Models which run on liquid propane are the right choice for safe use in indoor applications.
Electric Lift Trucks: The electric forklift units are powered by very big batteries which must be recharged. The equipments do not produce any polluting air emissions as these units do not burn any fuel. They are the right choice for indoor applications and warehouses. Also, electric lift trucks are much quieter to run compared to other units and they do not require any fuel storage units. Amongst the downsides of the electric units is that they are unable to carry loads over 15,000 pounds and thus, have a slower acceleration than gasoline powered units.
The forklift is particularly made to move things and supplies quickly and easily. Accidents do happen regularly as is the case with most types of machinery. There are some safety regulations which must be followed so as to keep everybody safe. The most important concern is recruiting a qualified operator, who would be able to show you a valid forklift license.
There are numerous different kinds of lift trucks available on the market. Deciding which one is best for your particular needs would be based on the kinds of loads which you have to transport, what kind of environment your machinery will need to operate in, for example, indoors or outdoors or both. Once you understand your particular needs, it would be really easy to match up to the best kind of forklift. When you know all your requirements exactly you can make a correct decision.
One more great way to get first hand experience on the different forklift models is the try renting your forklift. This would also allow you to see all the possible options available to you. This is a cheaper way to know if the equipment you have in mind could keep up with you on the job location.
