Aerial Manlift Hazards
Aerial manlifts are machinery that utilize either a series of linked, folding supports, such as a scissor lift or a boom lift or an articulated boom lift. These industrial kinds of equipment enable workers to get in touch with hard-to-reach places. In some ways, these kinds of machines have made construction much easier and safer, although, the general safety which comes with the unparalleled mobility of aerial manlifts has implemented a new list of dangers which could accidentally lead to serious injury or even death to drivers who are unaware.
Falls
Usually, falls can occur when employees are unable to correctly secure the lift platform or are unable to wear a safety harness. Falls can happen when a worker on the platform acts unsuitably and participates in an activity like for instance climbing the guard rails to gain extra height. Moreover, accidents could be caused if the operator on the ground causes the machinery to move in an unexpected motion before the worker being properly secured.
Numerous workers also fall because the base of their equipment is accidentally struck by some other heavy object. During this situation, the force of the blow below becomes amplified by the lift's length, therefore causing the employee to be suddenly catapulted off of the platform. Clearly this hazardous action has terrible results.
Tip-Overs
Sadly, boom lifts are easily prone to tipping over. Tip-overs could happen in any kind of lift, but are more common in articulated boom lifts. As boom lifts are able to move both vertically and horizontally, they are capable of changing the overall center of gravity of the machine. Therefore, if the lift is parked on an incline of some sort or over loaded, completely extending the boom when it is in the wrong position can cause the machinery to tip over.
