Skyjack Safety
A scissor lift is a particular piece of industrial equipment which is used for "positioning personnel, their equipment and their tools," based on Skyjack. Anybody who is preparing to use this type of machinery must familiarize themselves with the suggested safety and operational measures suggested by the manufacturer to be able to stay safe prior to attempting to use this equipment. It can be devastating to any bystanders and the operator themselves leading to serious injuries if the safety recommendations are not followed.
Area
In the best case scenario, the scissor lift will be used on completely level ground. Prior to driving a scissor lift over a certain terrain, the area needs to be inspected and cleared of any debris. In order to lower the possibility of the scissor lift tipping over and probably causing the driver to fall from his seat. It is better to avoid steep grades or holes while operating. Bystanders must also remain aware and stay clear of the operating scissor lift so as to make sure that they do not get run over.
Inspection
Prior to trying to operate a scissor lift, the user should carefully inspect all the integral parts of the equipment. The operator can see if all the components are functioning properly before the task is initiated, a functional test is done while the lift is retracted. It is recommended to complete a daily inspection on this machinery prior to starting the shift and some places even want an inspection to occur at the end of the shift also. Different businesses have different policies in place to maintain safety.
Part of the inspection has to be inspecting the tires. These parts obviously add to the scissor lift's movability and also provide the machinery with a solid foundation. A faulty or worn tire could blow and throw the operator from their location on top of scissor lift.
